Who Was Behind the Wheel?

A vehicle struck an adult male pedestrian in a hit-and-run collision in north Oshawa on Thursday morning, leaving him in critical condition.

The collision happened around 10:30 a.m. on Nonquon Road, just south of Taunton Road. Durham Regional Police and emergency crews were called to the scene after reports that a pedestrian had been hit.

Vehicle Leaves the Scene After Collision

Durham Regional Police spokesman Nick Gluckstein reported that the vehicle involved in the collision left the area shortly after striking the pedestrian.

Police later located and seized the vehicle connected to the incident. However, no arrests had been made at the time of reporting.

Investigators have not yet released details about the vehicle or explained why the driver left the scene.

Victim Airlifted to Toronto Trauma Centre

Emergency crews initially transported the injured pedestrian to Oshawa Hospital.

Due to the severity of his injuries, Air Ornge was then called to transport him to Sunnybrook Hospital in Toronto. The man was reported to be in critical condition.

Police have not released the identity of the victim.

Nonquon Road Closed During Investigation

The collision led to a lengthy road closure in the area.

Nonquon Road between Beatrice Street and the point where the road turns into Mary Street was closed for several hours while investigators examined the scene and gathered evidence.

Drivers in the area were asked to use alternate routes while the investigation continued.

Police Investigation Continues

Durham Regional Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision.

At the time of reporting, police had not confirmed whether an arrest was imminent. Gluckstein said an update on the investigation was expected later in the morning.

Investigators will likely examine evidence from the scene, the seized vehicle, and other available information as they work to establish what happened before and after the pedestrian was struck.

What Happens Next

The investigation remains active, and further details may be released as police continue their work.

The condition of the pedestrian remains critical, while investigators have yet to announce any charges connected with the incident.

Residents and motorists in Oshawa can expect further information from Durham Regional Police as the investigation develops.
